You can now register names up
to 63 letters.
You might ask, what's so great about that? Well, the
longer domain names create thousands of new name possibilities that could be worth a lot
of money to you. The key to all this is
the way search engines use key words in the domain names to rank sites. As an
example of what I'm talking about, lets say you have the name, www.brauker.com, the designer of this web site.
If someone in Colorado searches for, "web design Colorado," even
though those words are on the Brauker and Company site, it ranks low because other web
design sites have those key words in their names.
Now, with the longer domain names, it is possible to register
what I call, a secondary domain name such as web-design-colorado-ecommerce.com. When one goes to the search
engine and types in any of those key words, you will go to that name, which will lead
directly to www.brauker.com.
Why? Because you link the new longer address directly to Brauker.com.
Internet marketers have been trying very hard to figure out how to rank higher in the
search engines. The use of long secondary domain names is a giant leap forward in
that battle.
You may be asking why the dashes? Search engines like
them when looking for key words. (Don't ask us why, they just do.) You could also do, webdesigndenverecommerce.com,
but it might rank just a little lower.
Now, think of the possibilities. Let's look at United
Airlines. It has a site, www.ual.com.
It has a tour department that sells tours to England and other places. Now, when
people type in their search, they don't type in United Airlines. They type in,
"travel to England," or "England travel information." The key for us
is to register as many of these key words as possible.
